Living Costs

« Back To Cost & Financial Support

Studying in the UK is not as expensive, as you may think. It might even be cheaper than studying in your own country.

All students should consider the following major costs:

1. Housing - Between 270 to 370 Pounds per month

2. Food - Between 100 to 200 Pounds per month

3. Transportation - Varies

Housing - The price you spend for housing tends to be higher in the first year due to the student not having a good market overview and direct contact with the housing market. By searching houses and rooms online and through his colleagues that are already in the UK, the student will have less options which will lead to having a slightly more expensive room in the first year. However, after arriving in the UK and establishing contact with new people and new colleagues the student will rapidly learn of new opportunities that may be much cheaper, closer to the University and bigger in size. Finding a room in the UK is always quite easy as there is an annual renewal of hundreds of thousands of students finish their courses go back home or to new destinations.

Food - When we say between 100 to 200 Pounds per month for food we are already exaggerating as in the beginning most student opt to eat out or by pre-made meals which severely increases the monthly bill. However with the student's personal and professional development he will quickly learn that by shopping regularly in the supermarket and by cooking at home he will drastically reduce the monthly bill. Many will even choose to shop as a group, which will reduce even further this expense. Food in the UK is cheaper than in many ther European countries specially regarding fruits, vegetables, packaged and canned goods.

Transportation - Transportation applies mostly for students that decide to study in London, as in most smaller cities and towns the main transportation system is bicycle which is used by students and professionals alike. The price of transportation will depend entirely on the distance the student has to travel to University and work. The student may get a monthly pass for all types of transportation, thus reducing largely the monthly bill.

Note: The great advantage about studying in the UK is that all our student maintain a part-time job while they study as the British education system is fully prepared to receive the international and working student. The minimum salary in the UK is roughly 6 Pounds per hour which can bring in 600 Pounds per month for a 25h per week part/time job. Furthermore students in the UK do not have to pay taxes.
